Tips for Catching Fish in Cold Weather
Whether you are fishing in the river or at the sea, it isn’t easy to catch fish in cold weather. In many cases, it is extremely difficult to catch fish during the months of December, January, and February, to the extent that many people give up trying. However, despite what many people think, you can easily catch fish even in cold weather. It is just that the rules for catching fish are slightly different during this period.
Fish normally move into the river system itself rather than anywhere in the river during the cold weather. During normal weather when the temperatures are a bit warmer, fish normally move anywhere in the river including near the banks. During the winter, they move into the river system where they go deep where the temperatures are normally better off. Fishermen, on the other hand, normally make the mistake of having to look for fish in the same places that they usually caught them during the warm weather. A good practice would be to move towards the deeper sections of the pool before casting the net or bait in order to have a better chance of catching the fish.
However obvious this may seem, you need to have a warm pair of gloves when you go fishing. No matter the style of fishing you intend to follow, you will definitely use your hands at some point and you definitely want to have a good grasp of the line or net. Warm hands enable you to not only feel the knots on your fishing rod quite easily, but also pull out your catch out of the water with ease. Frozen hands do not give you the opportunity to do as much as you would like.
Short Course on Fishing – Getting to Square 1
Fish usually eat way less during the cold weather that they do in the warm weather. They are cold blooded animals hence their metabolism doesn’t function any better in this kind of weather. The last thing you would want to do in this situation is to add more bait that is needed into the water. More bait makes it difficult to catch the fish, hence you need to only use a little of it. If you normally use a full-sized worm during this period, you will now need to reduce it to about 2 inches long. Prepare to make more casts since fish can only go for bait when it moves close enough to it.
A Beginners Guide To Activities
If you follow the tips above, then your fishing trip during the cold weather won’t be as bad as you thought it would be. Once you identify these places, work your way towards casting the bait in the right places. This way, you will end up getting a good catch.
